Oahu hides most of its best scenery behind ridgelines and closed valleys. You can drive the island for a week and never see Sacred Falls, the interior of the Nuuanu rainforest, or the reef patterns off Kaneohe Bay. From a few hundred feet up, all of it opens at once.

These tours are flown by Blue Hawaiian Helicopters, Hawaii’s most awarded helicopter operator. On Oahu they fly the Airbus EC130 Eco-Star exclusively; a wide-cabin aircraft built for sightseeing, with stadium-style seating so the back row sits higher than the front, individual Bose noise-cancelling headsets, and two-way communication with your pilot throughout the flight. Every seat is a window seat.

Departures run from two heliports. Honolulu puts you over Pearl Harbor and Waikiki within minutes. Turtle Bay, on the North Shore beside the Ritz-Carlton, starts you over the surf breaks. Choose by how long you want to fly and which side of the island matters most to you.

Which One Should You Book?

If this is your first time on Oahu and you want Pearl Harbor plus the island’s scenery in one flight, Blue Skies of Oahu covers the most ground for the price. Add fifteen minutes and Complete Island Oahu takes you further into the Waianae range and along the full North Shore.

Staying on the North Shore, or short on time? Discover North Shore is thirty minutes over the surf breaks and the Ko’olau ridgeline; the least expensive way to fly. For the full island from that side, Turtle Bay Signature Sky is the most comprehensive flight offered on Oahu.

Departure Points

Honolulu Heliport: 99 Kaulele Pl, Honolulu, HI 96819

Turtle Bay Heliport: 57-091 Kamehameha Hwy, Kahuku, HI 96731; on the grounds of The Ritz-Carlton O’ahu, Turtle Bay

The Aircraft

Every Oahu flight uses the Airbus EC130 Eco-Star. It was designed for air tours rather than adapted from a utility helicopter, which shows in the cabin: a wide wraparound windscreen, 23 percent more interior space than the aircraft it replaced, and rear seats raised above the front row so nobody is looking at the back of someone’s head. It is also among the quietest tour helicopters flying, roughly half the noise footprint of conventional models.

Blue Hawaiian flies both the Eco-Star and the A-Star elsewhere in Hawaii. On Oahu and Kauai, it is Eco-Star only.
