Luau Kalamaku is set in the grounds of Kilohana Plantation, a 104 acre estate outside Lihue, and it is not the usual beachfront luau. The show is staged theater-in-the-round, so the audience sits on all sides of the performance rather than facing a stage.
The story runs the length of the evening; the voyage of the first Hawaiians from Polynesia to these islands, told through hula, chant and fire. Lonely Planet named it the best luau show on Kauai. It is the most produced of the Kauai luaus, with a media system, staging and costume design behind it.

If you want a big staged production with a story running through it rather than a low-key backyard evening, this is the Kauai luau to book. Families do well here; so do couples who want one memorable night out. The estate looks its best after dark.
